Overview: An educator and consultant in the areas of
PERSONAL SAFETY and DE-ESCALATION OF CONFRONTATION training since 1980, Mary Brandl has
worked with people from a wide range of social, economic, racial, cultural, and ethnic
backgrounds, includeing individuals possissing various physical and/or mental
disabilities. She has also tailored and adapted workshops to better accommodate
differences in outlook, age, abilities, and specific job duties and

inspectors, teachers, people who investigate child abuse, work with clients who have a
mental illness,
work in child support enforcement, in financial assistance, and many others.
TEACHING INDIVIDUALS WITH PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES /
DISABILITIES
Mary has intermediate level signing skills in American Sign Language (ASL), and has worked
with a number of Deaf agencies and groups, including the Deafness Education and Advocacy
foundation (D.E.A.F. Inc.) and the Regions Hospital's Health and Wellness Program serving
Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
Mary has also taught courses and workshops for organizations whose members/clients are
blind or visually impaired, who have physical limitations and may use canes, walkers, or
wheelchairs. Among these groups are Courage Center, the MN Chapter of the American
Council for the Blind, and Project Enhance.
TEACHING INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES OR
CHRONIC MENTAL ILLNESS
Mary has worked with many organizations who serve
these populations. Among them are ARC, Andrew Care Home, Learning Exchange, project
Power, and Resource Inc. In addition to personal safety trainings with the
members/clients themselves, Mary has also conducted some "train the Trainer"
workshops for the staff of these groups and agencies. |
